Tree Sunset

I thought this tree silhouette added interest to the sunset for those of you who might not favor a sky only composition.

Sunset

I know... I know!  I've already posted a sunset picture.  What can I say?  I'm a sucker for amazing sunsets!  Plus, it's all I have this week.  So, it was sunset photos or nothing.  I tried to make this one different by filling the frame with only sky.  The clouds made very interesting lines.  I think it works.

Mountain Fog

This picture is one that I would have never taken if it wasn't for this project.  I would have admired the scenery and maybe even composed the shot mentally, but would not have stopped and taken the shot.  I probably wouldn't of even had my camera with me even if I did want to take the shot.  So, yay to my project!  What caught my eye for this photo-op was the fog hovering the mountains.

Jakey's Snowman

Jakey spent A LOT of time building this snowman.  It was difficult for him to put the pieces on the face. Although the head kept falling apart, he persevered!  This is just a "memory" photo--nothing great about it photographically.  But he really wanted me to put it on my blog--so here it is!

Precious Brooklyn

Jakey and I went on a walk through the neighborhood with our dear friends.  So I took my camera along.  By the way, I have kept my camera in my car this whole week after having to return home for it for the moon photo.  Already this project is pushing me to be more of a photographer!  Yay!
Brooklyn is always sporting the cutest outfits.  I couldn't resist this shot with her styling sunglasses!  She is so precious.

Morning Moon

Monday morning I had to take Jakey to his 7am violin class because Les needed to be at work early.  This gorgeous full moon was my reward!  I dropped him off at the school, which is only a block from our house, and hurried home to grab my camera.  I tried getting a shot of the moon with the mountains in the scene, but couldn't find a good spot where there wasn't a bunch of ugly distractions.  That motivated me to scout a better place to photograph the full morning moon with the snow capped mountains.  Well, I think I found just the spot!  I have it planned out on my calendar for the next full moon.  I even debated posting this picture--hoping to get a better one.  But that is the purpose of this project--to become a better photographer.  Which means planning.  And I did take this photo this week.  So, maybe, if it all works out, next month I will have a dramatically improved morning moon photo to share.

Week One

Wow!  I took a lot of pictures this week.  I figured I would post them all since I'm sure that I will be hard pressed other weeks to even take just one photo.  Hope you enjoy!

Sunset

A gorgeous sunset like this always leaves me in awe of God's amazing creation!

Dane & Shasta Engagement Portraits

This was an engagement session I did for our friends.
I can't decide which is my favorite so I'm just posting my top picks.

My beautiful baby girl is growing up.

Eagle Tree

Jakey and I saw this eagle in the "eagle tree" on our way home from Durango.   We hurried home to grab our cameras. Boy was it worth it!
(My family has named this tree the eagle tree because we have seen many eagles in it over the years...one time I saw four eagles at once perched in this tree!).

Eagle Tree

This eagle was so much fun to watch.  I don't think he was happy that we stayed so long.  He kept talking to us as if to say, "go away."  He finally just flew away.

Got this shot thru my windshield as he flew away.

My Photography Project

I am starting this project in hopes of fine tuning my photography skills simply by taking more pictures on a regular basis.  I was thinking of trying the 365 photo project, but decided it might become too overwhelming.  So I decided to go for the 52 photo project.  It seems more realistic at this point.  So my goal is to take a photo or photos weekly and post them.  I hope to try different photography techniques and to learn more Photoshop techniques during this process.  I also think this project will get me into the habit of carrying my camera everywhere!  Because if I have my camera with me then it is more likely that I will capture those "kodak moments."
